Services Available


Cervical Smears

All ladies between the ages of 25 and 64 will be invited to attend for regular cervical smears, usually every 3 to 5 years. Appointments for cervical smears can be made with our Practice Nurses.


Child Health Developmental Clinics

Clinics in Child Health Development are available to our patients. We strongly advise that all the children in our practice are screened regularly for health, growth and development. Details can be obtained from the surgery or Health Visitor.


District Nurses

District Nurses are attached to both surgeries, although they are directly employed by Morecambe Bay Hospital NHS Trust. They provide skilled nursing care to patients in their own homes who are unable to come to the surgery. They can be contacted on 01539 718142 or 01539 716827.


Family Planning and Sexual Health

All the doctors at the surgery provide family planning services. Dr O’Sullivan and Dr Stonehouse fit coils and implants. We also offer sexual health screening.


Health Visitor

We have a Health Visitor who covers both surgeries, she is a qualified nurse employed by the Morecambe Bay Hospitals NHS Trust. The Health Visiting service provides advice about preventing illness with particular emphasis on the development of infants and pre-school children, working very closely with the members of the Primary Health Care Team. Maternity Care

Maternity care is offered by all the doctors, sharing the care with the mid-wife maternity unit at the Helme Chase Unit, Westmorland General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary and South Lakes Birthing Centre at Furness General Hospital. A community midwife is attached to the practice and they are employed by the Morecambe Bay Hospitals NHS Trust. They also run the ante-natal classes.


Minor Surgery

A wide range of minor surgical procedures are available. Please make an appointment with Dr Roberts will be happy to discuss specific problems in more detail.


Treatment Room

Our treatment room nursing team see patients at Windermere and Staveley surgeries, they offer a full range of services, which include:

  • First aid treatment for accident and emergency
  • Wound dressings
  • Ear syringing
  • Immunisations of children and adults
  • Advice and immunisations for foreign travel
  • Taking of blood samples
  • Removal of sutures

The Practice Nurses also offer clinics and advice on:

  • Dietary advice
  • Health checks including cholesterol measurement
  • Diabetes
  • Monitoring of blood pressure and ischemic heart disease
  • Smoking cessation
  • Asthma and COPD
